How to make a DIY face mask (#4 easy recipes)

For a long time now, the topic of facial skin has been much discussed, and DIY face mask is something that many people are considering. Everyone wants that glowing skin, but it requires a good skincare routine. Furthermore, facial care is not something to pass by lightly. Before you put anything on your face, you need to make sure that this product has been tested or that it doesn't cause any side reactions on your skin.

Be safe and consider while applying on sensitive skin

Experience has shown that our customers fall in love with products that have been recommended to them by friends because they are impressed by the results achieved without thinking that their skin is different. Be aware that this process is dangerous and can cause problems even with a DIY face mask. For this reason, I recommend that you always take these 2 steps before using any face mask:

  • Always test a small amount (dot) on the neck below the ear. The skin there is sensitive enough and if you show any reactions to a certain product, it can easily be masked with long hair, a scarf or even a turtleneck. Don't use your hands as a starting point. The skin there is rough and can easily show a different result.
  • Do it on weekdays (If you are trying a new product, do it on weekdays, and make sure you have access to medical services if you show an allergic reaction, so you can react as quickly as possible.)

It's good to know the allergens that are in face mask products and if you have a history of having an allergic reaction to any of them. Remember that you can develop allergic reactions to all kinds of products, like nuts, lemon juice, honey, etc. This goes for both consumer products and homemade face mask.

How did I gather information on the best DIY face masks?

I talked to our customers about the products they use in a homemade face mask recipe. Most people have used DIY face masks to deal with dry skin or acne-prone skin. I received multiple tips on different methods, and they all sounded fascinating, but one face mask stood out from the rest. Many of our clients use or have used what is called the "Breakfast Face Mask". They call it that because its ingredients are something you would rather put in your morning breakfast…

I then turned to the most familiar source of information - the internet. I've been following a few vloggers on TikTok and Instagram for a while now and decided to check if they shared any recipes for a nice hair mask, and BOOM, I found a great one, and the reviews in the comments are perfect! Without further ado, I'll get to the essential part.

4 easy DIY face mask recipes

I ended up with a total of 4 face mask recipes (2 from customers and 2 from the internet) that definitely stood out from the rest in terms of results. Contrary to all expectations, there is no lemon juice in them (like most of the homemade face mask recipes). I think if you combine all of them or at least some of them, you can achieve noticeable results and glowing skin.

Breakfast Face Mask

Breakfast Face Mask

My TOP PICK for a face mask recipe is so-called Breakfast Face Mask, which helps to sooth your skin and tackle oily skin. You know how oatmeal absorbs the liquid it's put in, this effect combined with the egg yolk and olive oil helps double the effect of the mask. Here's how to make it:

  • Take a small bowl and a whisk
  • Add a tablespoon of honey and a tablespoon of olive oil. Add one egg yolk and half a cup of oatmeal.
  • Stir well until you have a homogeneous mixture, which you should put on your face for 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, rinse with cool water

That's it... if you have a feeling of dry skin, you can moisturize it slightly. Some of our customers said they applied a face cream after the mask to get a better effect or added some coconut oil.

Texture Face Mask

Another great face mask recipe that I would put second in our ranking. Its results are just as impressive and tangible. This mask is extremely useful if you have uneven skin texture or dull skin. Here's how to make it:

  • Take one tablespoon of turmeric powder, one tablespoon of honey, and one tablespoon of natural yogurt
  • Mix well until you achieve a homogeneous mixture
  • Apply to your face and let sit for about 20 minutes
  • Rinse thoroughly

The lactic acid in the milk replaces rough and pale surface cells, the turmeric helps with pigmentation, and the honey is the must-have element of any face mask. Some people say that they add up lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to that DIY face mask recipe, but be careful if you have sensitive skin.

Banana face mask

An interesting fact is that vitamins A, B, and E are found in bananas, and these are vital vitamins for the skin. They help fade dark spots, smooth rough skin, reduce dryness, and hydrate. The following mask is called Banana Mask for this very reason, and here's how to achieve it:

  • Mash a medium-sized banana (make sure it's ripe)
  • To the mashed banana add ¼ cup of yogurt and 2 tablespoons of honey
  • Stir well
  • Apply to your face for 15-20 minutes

This mask is the best online suggestion I was able to gather from my favorite vlogger. It prevents the appearance of wrinkles and hydrates the skin well, and it's good for all skin types.

Tzatziki Face mask

The name of the next mask was actually made up by me. It comes from a popular dish in Greece that contains cucumber and plain yogurt. This mask is suitable for rough skin. It helps exfoliate the skin and makes it softer. Here's how to make it:

  • Smash half a cucumber with a blender, and add ¼ cup plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1 tablespoon brown sugar.
  • Stir well until you get a homogeneous mixture
  • Apply a thin layer to your face and let sit for 10-20 minutes
  • Rinse thoroughly with water

I chose this mask because it's one of the few that you can feel an immediate effect on and is suitable if you're looking for quick results. Most online users say that it's the best DIY face mask for dry skin that exfoliate dead skin cells.

There are a bunch more recipes for homemade face masks, including ones containing coconut oil, lemon juice, olive oil, aloe vera, green tea, apple cider vinegar, or even cocoa powder. Almost all of them include raw honey and with many of them, you can achieve the glowing skin effect. That's making honey one of the main ingredients in homemade face masks. If you know the beneficial effects of a fruit or vegetable, you can easily combine it with the most common ingredients of face masks, such as honey or yogurt, and get your own DIY face mask.

How about a pre-made face mask?
